Playwork Education and Training Council (PETC)

About

The Playwork Education and Training Council for England is a group that discusses issues of strategic importance to all aspects of playwork qualifications, skills and training in England. The group also makes recommendations to PETC UK. Play England facilitates the running of PETC England.

Aim

To provide a forum for the playwork sector to discuss issues of strategic importance on all aspects of Playwork qualifications, skills and training in England. 

Functions

  1.  To agree and recommend broad strategic actions for the development of Playwork qualifications, skills and training in England

  2. To provide advice and guidance on issues related to Playwork qualifications, skills and training in England

  3.  To share information with other home nation Playwork Education and Training Councils (PETCs)

  4.  To receive reports and make recommendations on the development of National Occupational Standards (NOS) / Professional Standards and associated qualifications, skills and training for playwork

  5.  To receive reports and make recommendation on the development and take up of playwork qualifications, skills and training to relevant Awarding Organisations, National Agencies & Government

  6.  To oversee the setting up and reviewing of appropriate Project Task Groups and receive reports as appropriate.

  7.  To take responsibility for disseminating information, advice and guidance on Playwork qualifications, skills and training to the stakeholder group for whom membership was conferred.

  8.  To review and agree the Terms of Reference of PETC England regularly

  9.  To approve Playwork qualifications, skills and training courses

UK Playwork NOS Consortium

Play Wales provides secretariat to the UK Playwork NOS Consortium.

The purpose of the consortium is to plan strategically across the four nations for the future of workforce development and sector skills initiatives in respect of playwork. In particular, to be in a position to ensure that a future review of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) / Professional Standards is undertaken by a consortium of organisations who can demonstrate sector expertise and buy in.

Membership of the UK Playwork NOS Consortium includes Play England, Play Wales, Play Scotland, PlayBoard Northern Ireland and the Playwork Foundation.

Key functions

  • To facilitate communication around playwork sector skills and workforce development across the UK

  • To support the development of Playwork Education and Training Councils (PETCs) or similar, in all four nations, including a PETC UK

  • To discuss, agree and plan for a future review of the NOS / Professional Standards for playwork

To encourage engagement from national playwork organisations and playwork sector experts including employers in respect of writing playwork NOS / Professional Standards.
