Description

Finstock Community Playground took two years to plan and was built in two weeks. The playground is based in a rural setting and attract between 10 and 50 children on a regular basis, but this is dependant on whether conditions.

Details
Finstock Community Playground has wheel friendly access; ramp access and low height grab handles to suit a range of children's needs. The playground was designed by an American based company, which specialises in community involvement (Leather & Associates). The playground was inspired by ideas from the people from Finstock, built by the local people and imported materials from US. It offers a free, accessible play area for children of different abilities.

Children and community involvement
Children were highly involved in the design of the playground and are involved in maintaining it. Local people were invited to the school to discuss their design ideas with the designers. This innovative approach has allowed the people of Finstock to express their wishes and has achieved a sense of pride and ownership over the playground, so the area has been well maintained and looked after.

Staff, policies and funding
The provision does not require any staff as it offers unsupervised play. The playground is funded by a parish council precept, plus whatever the group raises during the year on annual fun days, discos, bands and beer nights.
