Safeguarding children and young people within the play sector

This briefing is for people working in the play sector with managerial responsibility for safeguarding children and young people. It will also be useful for those who work directly, whether paid or unpaid, with children and young people on a regular basis.

The briefing outlines new approaches to child protection resulting from Every Child Matters, the Children Act 2004 and new guidance produced by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES): Working Together to Safeguard Children.

The briefing looks at the implementation of section 11 of the Children Act 2004, which details new statutory arrangements to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, whilst considering the new arrangements for multi-agency working contained in the DfES guidance.
