East Midlands

The Play England East Midlands team have been in place since September 2006 to assist local authorities and their partners develop play strategies -  a requirement for their application for funding from the Big Lottery Fund Children’s Play programme.

The East Midlands section of this website features regional news, events, the PlayToday regional insert, and details of how to contact us.

About the region

The East Midlands area covers Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire, and is a mixture of urban and rural areas. Both provide challenges in the creation of strong, effective play services and partnerships. The East Midlands is comparable to England as a whole in relation to its demographic, economic and social characteristics.

The team hopes that, through the promotion of the benefits of play and the creation of strong links with key regional agencies, play will be given the recognition it deserves.

Play England is a project of the Children's Play Council, part of the National Children's Bureau
