Play in the Children's Plan: Policy summaries

15 January 2008

Play England has produced two documents summarising the play-related commitments contained in The Children’s Plan: Building brighter futures.

The Children’s Plan outlines the government’s strategy for improving services for children and young people and their families over the next ten years, with the aim of ‘making England the best place in the world for children and young people to grow up’.

This landmark document includes significant government policy commitments that will benefit the play sector, including plans for the first ever national play strategy, £225m of new money to build or renovate play areas, and training to enable playworkers to gain a professional qualification.

Government has also said it will work with local authority planners to create more child friendly public spaces, implement more 20mph speed zones and encourage the wider adoption of home zones.
