Possible Futures for Playwork

Play England sponsored a debate for the playwork sector on its future development and direction. The project was designed to provide a platform for creative discussion and debate for playworkers.

Possible Futures for Playwork was designed to enable the playwork sector to debate its own future; to provide a platform for discussion from which may, or may not come some cohesive ideas for infrastructure bodies to respond to.

Creative discussion

Following a launch event in December 2007, the project team issued an open invitation to everyone in the playwork sector to prepare a brief paper on your views about what is needed for playwork in the UK.

Writers from across the play and children's sector have submitted papers to engage in creative discussion and debate about direction and development of the playwork profession.

Paper titles include: Do our playwork job descriptions describe the job?; Playwork: a profession or poor relation?; and Keeping children at the centre of the process.

There is an online forum to discuss the papers and the issues they raise. The group is open to anyone to join.
