Play England projects

Play England has launched major projects to address issues facing children's play and the sector.

Community Play
The Community Play programme supports community engagment to promote play in local areas, including highlighting the role of the voluntary and community (third) sector.

Mainstreaming inclusive play
Play England has commissioned KIDS to provide advice and guidance to play pathfinders and playbuilders on promoting inclusive play and accessible play space design.

Play Shaper
Play Shaper is a professional development programme that helps the people who design, build and manage our communities to understand the importance of play and their role in creating child-friendly public spaces.

Playbuilder and play pathfinder support
The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has commissioned Play England to support playbuilder and pathfinder local authorities to deliver the government’s £235m investment in play and transform local areas into innovative and adventurous play spaces.

Quality in Play
Play England has adopted Quality in Play to expand the quality assurance scheme and help to raise standards of staffed play provision across the country.

Third sector adventure playground funding programme
Play England has been contracted by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) to manage a funding programme for refurbishment of adventure playgrounds run by the voluntary and community sector.   The application stage is now closed.

Previous projects

Places to Go?
Places to Go is a Play England and NCB project aimed at changing policy and practice so that children and young people can have more opportunities to enjoy their local streets and neighbourhoods, and to have better access to travel and transport.

Possible Futures for Playwork
Play England is sponsoring a debate for the playwork sector on its future development anddirection. The project is designed to provide a platform for creative discussion and debate for playworkers.
