Regional Playday organiser seminar
5 May 2010, Taunton
The Play England - South West team held a regional seminar to help support those planning local Playday events. Delegates had the opportunity to meet fellow event organisers, share top tips and get advice.
Highlights included a den building session run by Dan Rees-Jones from Playwork Partnerships. Keynote speakers included Theo Tanser from TEPEE, and Alison Gill from KIDS.

Playing with challenge and risk
10 December 2009, Swindon
This seminar, jointly hosted by Play England - South West and Play England - South East brought together those responsible for managing and designing play provision and explored how to use the risk–benefit assessment process detailed in Managing Risk in Play Provision.
The event featured expert speakers and included presentations, discussions and case studies to investigate practical ways of managing risk in play provision.

Community Play seminar
18 November 2009, Taunton
Play England – South West hosted a seminar in Taunton on 18 November 2009.
The seminar focused on how the voluntary and community sector can strategically support the national Play Strategy at a local level, and encourage communities to get involved with play.
Speakers included Olivia Gore from the Big Lottery Fund, Kerstin Neason from Children England, and Julie Hathaway from KIDS.
Feedback from the day has been very positive. The seminar was funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

Natural play group meeting
30 July 2009, The Eden Project, Cornwall
This meeting was open to members of the natural play group that was set up last year with support from Natural England and Greenspaces - South West. The group brings together organisations with an interest in promoting opportunties to play in natural environments in order to share their work and develop areas of joint work.

Play indicators training
21 July 2009
The team held two training events, in Swindon and Torbay, that provided an overview of play performance indicators, and how to evaluate the quality of play spaces.
The morning session focused on the participation indicator, and access indicator, including using geographical information systems. In the afternoon delegates learnt about the quality assessment tool and visited a local park to see this assessment tool in action. The day finished with an overview of the satisfaction indicator and an action planning session. Feedback from the events was overwhelmingly positive.

South West Play Celebration
28 March 2009 - Bournemouth
Nearly 200 delegates attended the hugely popular South West play celebration hosted by Playwork Partnerships. The conference focused on building a better future for play, through training and development for all aspects of play and playwork. Keynote speakers included James Holden, from Government Office for the South West, and Stuart Lester, from the University of Gloucestershire.
