Terms and conditions of membership

1. Membership categories

Full membership is open to the following organisations in England that are concerned with, or have an interest in, children’s play:

Full members have voting and nomination rights at council meetings and can be elected as voting members onto the council’s Strategic Advisory Board.

Associate membership is open to individuals, commercial sector organisations, trade unions and professional associations that have a primary interest in children’s play. These members do not have voting rights at council meetings.

2. Membership charges

Membership is dependent on receipt of payment, either by cheque enclosed with the application form or within 30 days of the invoice date.

The annual fee for membership varies according to membership type (see above).

NCB members are entitled to a 10 per cent discount on Play England membership.

3. Membership benefits

Member benefits are listed here. Play England reserves the right to change member benefits or remove membership at any time.

Play England members' access to NCB library services
Access to the Children’s Play Information Service (CPIS) is free to all Play England members. CPIS, based at NCB, is a specialist information resource providing information on all aspects of children’s play, focusing on school-age children. Find further information at www.ncb.org.uk/cpis or on 020 7843 6303.

Play England members can also access NCB’s Library and Information Service. This houses a multi-disciplinary collection of mainly books and journals relating to the education, health and social care of children and young people and is the most comprehensive collection in the UK. Access is by prior appointment and a £10 fee is levied for a one-day pass. Further information about the library and its services is available at www.ncb.org.uk/library or on 020 7843 6008.

4. Membership use

Individual memberships are for individuals only, such as independent consultants, freelancers and students, and are strictly for personal use.

Organisational memberships are strictly for the use of the direct employees of the organisation named.

5. Membership contacts

Organisational members shall nominate an employee to be their main contact with Play England membership. The main contact will be responsible for managing additional contacts, informing us of changes in user details, and notifying us of users leaving their employment. If a contact ceases to be employed by the member organisation they have no further right to make use of Play England membership benefits. It is the responsibility of the member organisation to ensure that their employees comply with these terms and conditions.

Additional contacts can be added to each organisational membership, up to a limit of three per organisation.

6. Charter for Children’s Play

Members are required to show their commitment to promoting children’s play by endorsing the Charter for Children’s Play on the membership application form. The charter is the underpinning document of all Play England’s work.

7. Play England Council

Play England members meet regularly as the Play England Council. The full terms of reference for both membership and the council are under review at present and will be decided by the Play England Council in due course.

8. Data protection

We store your details on the NCB database, and this will be processed in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
